Yesterday’s weekly twitter chat (#cmgrchat) with community manager’s focused on the role of the Community Strategist and there was consensus on what the role of a community strategist was vs. a community manager.
So while the community manager is often actively talking with members on social media or in an internal community, the strategist is defining ojectives, analyzing metrics and coming up with the overall strategy. With so many community professionals now finding themselves being asked to work on the strategy, we felt the time was right for an online training program specifically developed for them.
It’s important to point out however, that the skills and experiences needed in a strategist will vary greatly by organization size & culture. What they are responsible for in each organization can vary greatly as well. For this reason we wanted to be sure to include sessions that illustrate the differences and similarities in developing community for different audiences. Sessions include:
- How to better understand industry and market trends and the broad implications for organizations.
- Strategies for convincing executive peers from Mark Yolton, SVP of Digital, Social & Communities at SAP
- Fundamentally changing how a huge global consulting firm communicates and collaborates in record time from Claire Flanagan, Director of Social Collaboration and Community Strategy at CSC
- Working through a compliance maze bigger than most law firms from Frank Eliason, SVP of Social Media at Citi
- Specific sessions covering case studies focused on internal communities, customer support communities, marketing oriented communities and those in the government sector, non-profits and regulated industries.
Depending on how mature your community is, you may be like @corecorina, wearing all of the community hats. So while your title may not be Community Strategist, that is exactly what you are, some of the time… and this training is also for you.
What is it you will learn? Yesterday’s chat highlighted what community strategists need to know to do their job well:
Thanks to everyone who participated in #cmgrchat yesterday. We learned a lot and will integrate it into the upcoming community strategist training sessions. Let us know what you think of the agenda by adding a comment below.
