By Shannon Abram, Relationship Manager at The Community Roundtable.
If you’re anything like me you definitely do not have enough time to get everything you’d like to done at your desk every week. Recently we’ve been trying out new ways to carve out a little time away from our desks and remain productive. Enter: podcasts! I love catching up with Roundtable recordings on walks with my dog, and am happy to introduce another way to connect with our members away from your desk – our Conversations with Community Managers podcasts. Each new podcast is 10-20 minutes of a candid conversation with a community professional.
This week we kicked the series off again (you can find older episodes here) with Jerry Canaday, Solution Architect – Internal Systems at MasterCard. We discuss applying community management principles to non-traditional community roles and the intersection of the future of the intranet, mobile, and community management, but the podcast is worth listen alone for the amazing sport/community management analogy that Jerry shares! You can check it out here – and download it to listen to on your commute, a dog walk or even a jog!
Things We Are Reading This Week
State of Community Management Monday Fact #1: Community Teams Build Success – The State of Community Management 2015 is out in the wild. Odds are that you are aware of that, if you are a regular reader of this blog and a friend of The Community Roundtable. But if not, or if you haven’t had a chance to pull up a chair, kick back and dive into research and analysis in this year’s report, today is your lucky day.
Online communities create social ‘stickiness,’ say experts – On the path to transition their social media efforts to online communities, companies are looking at peer-to-peer and user-generated content as ways to keep visitors engaged.
The Network Secrets of Great Change Agents – Change is hard, especially in a large organization. Numerous studies have shown that employees tend instinctively to oppose change initiatives because they disrupt established power structures and ways of getting things done. However, some leaders do succeed—often spectacularly—at transforming their workplaces.
TheCR’s Working Out Loud Framework – This week is ‘International Working Out Loud Week‘ or #wolweek – a week to highlight the growing practice of creating better organizations by sharing not just our work products, but our work processes. It’s fitting that this year #wolweek coincides with the release of John Stepper’s new book – Working Out Loud: For a better career and life, as John has been instrumental in applying the concept and documenting both how to do it well and its value.
Measuring the Benefits of Employee Engagement – It’s well known that employees’ attitudes toward the organization have a significant effect on how they approach their jobs and how they treat customers. But recent research also suggests that high levels of employee engagement are associated with higher rates of profitability growth.
The Community Centric Customer Experience – Building strong customer relationships is good. Building an active network of customer relationships is the future. I grew up in a small town in Kentucky, and my Dad started his career in a small community bank in our home town. As my Father’s career grew, he had the opportunity to join a burgeoning software firm focused on financial data processing for small community banks, then back to the community bank business as a founder and CEO.
