Sharing this on social media led to some surprised comments about these salaries. People were (pleasantly, I think) surprised to learn that average community manager salaries are so high in 2024.
Of course, all of this is relative. Digging deeper into the research data showed that community managers at non profit organizations make less money than community managers at large companies (not a surprise). We were surprised at just how big the wage gap was between average community manager salaries at nonprofits and average community manager salaries at high tech, telecom, and software firms was. Nonprofit-based community managers make a full 40-49% less than their peers at high technology, telecom, and software firms, depending on the role.
Over the last few years, there has been a lot of discussion that companies are moving away from the “community manager” job title, instead installing intranet managers, customer experience professionals, and other non-community titles. Our research suggests the opposite, with “community manager” the #1 role we saw from all respondents. While our sample may be biased based on our ecosystem, we see no evidence of a shift to a new title/role globally.
Community managers in US-based roles also made more on average than community managers at companies in other global regions. Interested in what’s happening with community manager salaries in the US and worldwide? Download the 2024 Community Careers and Compensation report to learn more.
