Friday Roundup: Wolves, Playbooks & Jobs

October 17, 2014 By Shannon Abram

By Shannon Abram, Relationship Manager at The Community Roundtable.

October is flying by – I can’t believe we’re more than halfway through the month! This week on the blog we talked about how to survive (and thrive!) as a one-person community team and discussed the importance of having a community playbook. If you’ve been following along on twitter you might have seen that we are releasing the first research from the Community Manager Salary Survey while at JiveWorld 2014 next week! Stay tuned for a fun piece of content that just might help you get a raise.

Jive WorldSpeaking of JiveWorld 2014 will you be there? There are some don’t miss sessions that we  are really looking forward to, including: a Social Business Bootcamp, Jive as a Development Platform,Proving Business Value and Beyond Engagement: Moving Businesses and Creating Movements.  If you’re in Vegas next week please say hello – three members of TheCR Team will be there – Hillary, Rachel and Jim, and we love making new friends! (Not attending JiveWorld 2014? Don’t worry – the CMSS research piece will be available on our website, too!)

Our favorite community news and articles from around the web:

Is Kindness Physically Attractive? – One of the most robust findings in social psychology is the beauty-is-good stereotype:physically attractive people are perceived and treated more positively than physically unattractive people.

This Is Not A Social Network2014-13-September-Not-A-Pipe-thumb-320x240-25391 – Watching the livestream and tweet stream of #BIF10 a few weeks ago sharply reminded me that Twitter is not a social network. It is a medium that connects, conveys and spreads a social network. It has moments of brilliance, hours of banality, and wondrous conversations sometimes slide into noxious platitudes.

How Face-to-Face Events Build Online Community Engagement – What I’m about to tell you may sound counterintuitive: you can use face-to-face events to build engagement in your online community. If you think about it, you realize the outsized role that online interactions play in our lives. When I wake up early in the morning, I check email first, Twitter next. And that’s before I get out of bed.

How to Start (or Advance) Your Career in the Community Industry – So, you want to build communities for a living, eh? You’re not alone. As community-centric businesses continue to grow into billion-dollar giants, more and more companies are looking to hire community professionals and more people are looking to enter the field than ever before.

Timeline: Corporations in the Collaborative Economy (Ver 2, Oct 2014) – We’ve been tracking corporations in the Collaborative Economy, and released version 1.0 in April, 2014. Now, as we approach the Crowd Companies members-summit in NY next week, we’ll be dissecting and analyzing the different deployments large companies are rolling out to participate in sharing, marketplaces, as well as co-innovation with makers.
